Parents today are ready for a change in healthcare. With rising concerns about the adverse effects drugs have on their children, parents are choosing healthier options. Chiropractic care is one such option. Chiropractic enhances the body’s innate ability to heal itself. By looking at the body as a whole and addressing chemical, physical and emotional stressors, chiropractic helps foster a lifetime of healthy habits. Chiropractic care is safe and gentle, and an effective way to help kids reach their optimal health.
In addition to promoting general health, chiropractic can help with:
- · Asthma/allergies
- · Bedwetting
- · Colic
- · Concentration difficulties
- · Ear infections
- · Fever/immune support
- · Hyperactivity
- · Irritability/anxiety
- · Latch/breastfeeding struggles
- · PDD (Pervasive Developmental Disorders)
- · Sleep disturbances
- · Sports injuries
Primitive Reflexes & Neurosensory Integration
In addition to chiropractic care, some children also benefit from primitive reflex re-integration. We are each born with an initial set of reflexes, known as Primitive Reflexes, which allow us to develop and survive inside the womb and throughout the first months of life. Each of these reflexes should naturally abate no later than year one of life. When a particular reflex does not abate on its own, a retained primitive reflex may prevent higher centers of the brain from developing properly. Such an occurrence can make it difficult for the child to handle certain demands of the Auditory, Visual, Tactile, Vestibular and Proprioceptive Systems. Development dysfunction in any of these areas during childhood can be carried on into adulthood.
When necessary, Dr. Meagan and Dr. Melissa will do a primitive reflex check to see if remnant reflexes are affecting a child’s ability to react appropriately to sensory information or the environment. In these cases, specific chiropractic adjustments will be made to address any neurological findings. Home exercises may also be prescribed.
