Secret #3: What are you willing to do?
Now that you have a better idea as to why you have established this goal and who you need to be in order for it materialize, the next fundamental secret is to assess what you’re willing to do so that your resolution becomes a reality? To figure this out, you need to understand the variety and types of steps that could be taken and choose the ones you are more likely to follow through with first.
Let’s specifically use health goals as an example. In our office, we look at our health, and even our lives for that matter, from 3 distinct perspectives:
o Physical Well-being: How often and how well do you exercise? This could be as simple as taking a walk or as intense as running a marathon. The key to making physical changes is to find activities that you enjoy and then include them in your life for 30 minutes each day.
o Nutritional Well-being: What kind of foods do you put in your body and how often do you eat? We are what we eat and the food we consume becomes our fuel. There is an enormous amount of research about how our food intake plays into our emotional well-being and our ability to handle stress. If you have any questions about what types of food would be beneficial to your life, please feel free to contact our office.
o Emotional Well-being: Our thoughts are things that can contribute to, or detract from, the quality of our lives. What do you spend your time thinking about most often? Do your relationships contribute or detract from the quality of your life? It is essential, to allocate at least 15 minutes each day to yourself where you spend time in your thoughts and assess how they are impacting your life.
When it comes to our health – (why we are not well or how do we get well )- it is always about one or more of these areas of well-being. If we ultimately want to get healthier in the New Year we must understand that our sources of stress and our sources of health all come from the same three areas: what we eat, how we move our bodies, and what we focus our thoughts on. This year we must examine where we fall within each of these and decide what we are willing to work on. By improving in one or all three, our health, energy, vitality, weight, enthusiasm, sleep and stress will all improve as well. Always feel free to consult with us if you want help either determining where you are in these three areas or deciding where to begin your changes.
